Director's Dish

A Rich Tradition in Learning
By Melissa Loyd

I have been so blessed to be a part of this amazing preschool community. I attended preschool here as a child so my connection and dedication to the school go back for decades. This school is like a home to me and assuring that the quality of care and the reputation of the school remain high is very important to me. I have worked in many capacities at the preschool. I first worked as a toddler teacher while working on my degree at Bellarmine University. Upon completion of my degree I taught children with special needs at Jefferson County Public Schools. It wasn’t long before the urge to be back at A.J. called to me again and I returned to teach kindergarten. From starting out as a three-year-old here it only seemed natural that the next level of progression was to become the preschool director.

I feel I am so fortunate to see the bright, smiling faces of your children. They bring so much joy to my life. Choosing a preschool can be very stressful, so we work very hard to assure your children are safe and can flourish as individuals in a loving, nurturing environment.

Another wonderful aspect of my job is working with our amazing staff. Our teachers are well-trained professionals in the area of early childhood education and have many years of experience working with young children. In addition, they have participated in many hours of in-service training which teach the most up to date techniques with regard to child development as well as CPR and First Aid. Many teachers have completed coursework from major universities and institutions. We have a remarkably low turn-over rate and are proud of it!

The staff carefully plans their curriculum assuring special attention be given to every area of the child’s development. They emphasize activities toward individual, social, emotional, physical, cognitive, linguistic and intellectual growth. From beginning problem-solving, reasoning and critical thinking to the nurturing of creativity, sharing and individuality, the staff at Adath Jeshurun Preschool allows each child to develop at his or her own pace. Developmentally appropriate activities are planned to teach letter recognition and beginning reading and writing skills. Activities are designed to engage, challenge, and stimulate our children — and produce smiles and laughter!

I encourage you to come see for yourself the amazing happenings of a wonderful AJ day! Since 1953 we have been a close knit community school helping to build a strong foundation for many children’s lives. We hope you too will want to become a part of the A.J. Preschool family!
